NSD and CHKD

THIS Saturday is the one day of the whole entire year that is devoted to us...SCRAPBOOKERS!

National Scrapbook Day at Beach Scrapbooks is going to be fun (you know we're all about having fun!)...and there will be sales (keep an eye on your inbox)...and you'll get to create some cool make-n-takes (awesome!). But, honestly, the part that we're most excited about this year is giving back.

When you are excitedly expecting a new life in your family, you never imagine that your baby may be born as much as 16 weeks early and require months of hospitalization. Most people are not even aware of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), which becomes so many families’ “home away from home”. Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters’ NICU cares for as many as 70 babies and their families on a regular basis. These families come from all walks of life and are made up of all different relatives and friends; however they all share the same experience of having a baby hospitalized immediately at birth.

There are several support services for families who have babies in the NICU. One of these supports is a scrapbooking group.

This scrapbooking group has been set up specifically to provide an outlet for Moms, Dads, and siblings to do something “normal” for their babies in a situation that is very out of the ordinary. They offer scrapbooking once a week and are fortunate to be able to provide scrapbooks, materials, and refreshments for the families. Many families take advantage of this opportunity and often express how nice it is to “take a break” from the intensity of the unit and being at their baby’s bedside. Families also find scrapbooking a much needed outlet to express their creativity and decompress from the anxiety and fear that is constant when you have a child in an intensive care unit.

Given the current economic climate, there is some concern that the scrapbook funds will be limited or even cut.

Here's where we can help. We are NOT asking you to donate money. We are simply asking you to go through your scrapbook stash and pull out some new or gently used items that you'd like to donate. Paper, paper packs, glue sticks, tape runners, stickers, alphabets, embellishments, ribbon, tools...ANYTHING that you would use to scrapbook. They obviously use more baby related items, but really anything is appreciated.

I think it's pretty safe to say that we ALL have "stuff" that we don't use! However, if you can't part with any of your items but would still like to make a donation, we have plenty of items in the store for purchase.

Bring your donation (one item, several items or a box full!) to Beach Scrapbooks on National Scrapbook Day (THIS Saturday). As a thank you, we're offering the first 50 donors an opportunity to make a FREE exclusive handmade card featuring Magnolia stamps, Copic markers and FlowerSoft. (It would make a GREAT Mother's Day card!)

So, what are you waiting for?!? Start going through that stack of scrapbook supplies sitting in the corner :)

See you on Saturday!
